Amazon.com essential video
With each passing year bringing another high-profile rock reunion, prompted as often by balloon mortgage payments as any real artistic hunger, old fans could be excused for greeting 1997's announcement that the big Mac was back with skepticism: at their commercial zenith, Fleetwood Mac had offered superb transatlantic pop-rock with the added spice of a remarkable back-story, but the band's long decline and underwhelming later personnel shifts didn't bode well.

Such guarded expectations make the musical punch of The Dance all the more impressive, and enable the meticulously produced concert special to genuinely surprise. The band's musicianship--the one constant between the original, late '60s English blues band and its platinum '70s lineup featuring guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and singer Stevie Nicks--is in peak form, buttressed by a discreet auxiliary of additional musicians. Even with the hired guns, though, it's the rock-solid rhythm section of founders Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, and Buckingham's impassioned playing that strike sparks. Always a dynamic guitarist, Buckingham brings feverish intensity to both group classics and solo turns such as "Go Insane."

Both familiar hits and new songs (including the solid "Temporary One" and "Bleed to Love Her") further confirm that this isn't a rote exercise--the band sounds fully engaged. Buckingham, Nicks, and the elegant Christine McVie retain their vocal charm (although Nicks has clearly lost her upper register). And the sense of old wounds healed, and older affections acknowledged, gives true poignancy to the set's high mark, a brilliant live version of "Silver Springs," a truly haunting Rumours-era B-side that proves deeply moving. --Sam Sutherland

5 out of 5 stars Fabulous DVD   July 21, 2010

One of the best DVD's I've seen, if you like Fleetwood Mac at all, you will be amazed...Buy it!!

3 out of 5 stars Good Concert.... Crappy Video Quality.   July 5, 2010
D. McNevin (Northern Hemisphere)
I've had this concert on VHS and now DVD over the last 10 years or so. I'd have to say this is one of the worst DVD Videos on the market as far as video quality is concerned. The fuzzy imagery, with absolute lack of clarity and sharpness is among the worst I've ever seen. Whether watching in standard or upconverted mode, this video quality is horrendous. It needs to be remastered in the worst way. No Blu Ray edition as of right now, so this is all you're left with for options.
With that said, if you can get past the video quality, the Dolby Digital audio track is done pretty well. There is a good mix of old and new material, mostly old, that the band performs exceptionally well. Lindsay Buckinghams solo performance mid-way through the set is incredible, and really highlights his guitar playing ability. He carries the band through a good portion of the concert. The overall vocal ability of the band has diminished slightly by this time, but not in a way that should discourage fans from appreciating this reunion show.
It's a concert that can be watched from beginning to end with no obvious weak points in the set.
I can not reiterate enough how crappy the video quality is in this standard DVD transfer, but if that's a minor point in your viewing experience when watching concerts, then by all means purchase this DVD. Otherwise, wait for a remastered/Blu Ray edition.

1 out of 5 stars DVD Fleetwood Mac, The Dance   July 5, 2010

When I received my DVD in the mail and opened it up, the round middle thing that the DVD snaps onto was broken...I didn't think too much of it since everything else looked okay. I played the DVD that very night, and about 25 minutes into it, the picture became extremely grainy, then it would clear up, then back to grainy, then it finally went completely black. It was almost as if it was a bootleg copy! I tried to fast forward to see what would happen, and it still continued to be black....no sound or anything. Needless to say, I was extremely disappointed. I had already thrown the shipping slip away, so I couldn't return it...dumb move on my part! The Fleetwood Mac DVD itself is an excellent DVD..too back the product itself didn't work correctly.

So, overall, I will never order any DVD's from Amazon again.

5 out of 5 stars The Absolute Best Of Fleetwood Mac!!!   December 28, 2009
Elvira Michelle Sanders (Houston, TX)
This is an excellent dvd. I had another one, but it was so good that I gave it to my uncle, who is a grammy winning musician lead guitar player. I think his style is kind of like Lindsey Buckingham's. All of the band members are at the peak of their talent as a great artist and they really show it in this dvd. I think this is their best work so far. I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, and even bigger Stevie Nick's fan. I highly recommend this dvd to anyone who is looking for most of their greatest hits along with a few new songs that sound wonderful. You will not regret your decision. I have watched this dvd at least 50 times since I have owned it. I bought it when it was first released years ago and just recently bought another one. After giving it to my uncle, I felt like I really had to have another one. My Fleetwood Mac collection was definitely not complete without it. I love it and I'm sure you will too!!!
